I am so excited to get to show you Leila & Mark’s editorial photoshoot from last fall!
A Simpler Approach
I’ve always loved creating images that are playful, fun, and full of joy. The purpose of life is to enjoy it, and to spend it with people you love, right? After living through 2020, though, I bet a lot of us can agree that we’ve started finding the joy in the more serene moments. In the moments that are quiet, or that might be stressful or upsetting that we have no control over. It’s been a year of learning, adjusting, and being flexible.
Now, I’m discovering that simple images with a lot of feeling are definitely my favorite ones to create. This has really been my focus, especially over the last few months and through dealing with the pandemic.
Leila & Mark’s Editorial Photoshoot
Leila and Mark were an absolute joy to photograph last fall on this beautiful hillside on Oahu! I love their gallery because it actually doesn’t look like your typical Hawai’i location – it’s unique and super desert-y instead of the usual lush greenery. With the pandemic, we have had so many canceled travel plans (and don’t have any travel plans for anytime soon!), so I have been itching to get to see and create in new + different environments. Hawai’i is amazing for so many reasons, but especially its diversity of landscapes in such a small space! (Check out this blog post about all of the beautiful settings Hawai’i has to offer for your elopement or session!)
We played around with less playful, movement-filled photos and more creative, editorial-esque poses instead. The bright blue sky we had combined with the harsh sunlight and their neutral outfits made for the most gorgeous shoot!
I truly want to just document couples as beautifully and honestly as I can, no matter what that looks like for them. You don’t need to fit into any type of personality type, style, or look to have your beautiful and unique love documented.
Thank you Leila and Mark for such a wonderful day out in the sunshine doing this editorial engagement photoshoot – I hope you enjoy looking through their gallery!
